Dr. Borovetz is currently Professor of Bioengineering and the Robert L. Hardesty Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been the principal investigator on numerous grants from NIH and The Whitaker Foundation. Dr. Borovetz has been the principal graduate thesis advisor for more than 20 M.S., Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. candidates, and the author/co-author of more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts in cardiovascular/cardiopulmonary bioengineering. He founded the Clinical VAD Bioengineering Program at UPMC in 1985. For several years, Dr. Borovetz functioned as an IPA in the Bioengineering Research Group of the NHLBI/NIH. Dr. Borovetz earned his bachelor's degree in physics at Brandeis University and his master's and doctorate degrees in bioengineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
