Since joining the AHP in 1988, Dr. Schaub he has participated in the care of over 370 VAD/TAH patients and accumulated over 15 years of IABP experience. He became AHP’s Clinical Research Coordinator in 1998, and received an appointment Adjunct Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. In addition to his clinical VAD/TAH activities, Dr. Schaub has supported the development of technical and training modules for leading VAD manufacturers. Dr. Schaub is leading AHP efforts in the clinical use of other artificial organ technologies. In particular Dr. Schaub heads the team of engineers who are supporting clinical trials of a bioartificial liver. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Schaub’s thesis work contributed to the redesign of a clinically approved VAD.
